Opportunity Global establishes the overall strategy of The Opportunity Network, supports implementation of the strategy and oversees the programs worldwide. The global leadership team is headed by the CEO of Opportunity Global. The Opportunity Global CEO reports to the Opportunity Global Board of Directors. Opportunity’s global leaders use their extensive professional experience to ensure Opportunity achieves its mission of empowering people living in poverty to transform their lives, their children's futures and their communities.

CEO Forum

The CEOs of Opportunity International in Australia, Canada, Germany, UK and US meet as the CEO Forum to promote collaboration among their organisations, share best practice and test ideas and initiatives. Primary responsibility for operational matters involving collaboration between these organisations lies with the CEO Forum.

Deborah Foy

Deborah has worked for Opportunity International for the past 22 years and is currently the Executive Director of Opportunity International Inc. Deborah facilitates collaboration between key global offices and supports the leadership team of Opportunity International to continually improve our ability to serve clients and impact lives, both today and into the future. She’s passionate about finding innovative ways to reach those most excluded, particularly smallholder farmers, forcibly displaced populations and young people.

Atul Tandon

Atul Tandon, an Indian American, comes to Opportunity with a background marked by building, scaling and turning around some of the world’s best-known for profit and nonprofit enterprises. Over a 35-year career, his work has impacted financial services and consumer banking, the social sector, nonprofit management and governance, the digital economy and marketing.

Prior to joining Opportunity International, Atul founded and served as CEO of the Tandon Institute, which provides strategy, solutions and staffing to enable social sector enterprises to rapidly accelerate their impact, revenues, public engagement and organisational capacity.  Before that he served as the leader of United Way Worldwide’s 41-country International Network, and worked as Senior Vice President of Donor Engagement for World Vision United States. 

Atul is a board member for several organisations, including the Christian Leadership Alliance, the largest association of faith-based organisations and churches in the U.S, and Mission Aviation Fellowship, the largest provider of rural and remote access air services to international NGOs. 

Nana Francois

Nana joined Opportunity International UK as CEO in September 2022.  She joined from FaithInvest where as Director of Investment Solutions she led a team helping faith-based organisations put their money where their values are. Prior to this she worked in the corporate financial services sector for almost twenty years, holding a number of positions with Gartmore, with J.P. Morgan and with Barclays in South Africa.

Alongside her Barclays role in South Africa, Nana was heavily involved in church programmes that sought to make projects more sustainable, and in funding and supporting female entrepreneurs in Ghana.  Through this work she saw first-hand the impact that enterprise support, education, agriculture and financial access can have in uplifting individuals and a whole community.

Nana has also held a number of governance roles - as a vice chair on the Board of the Finance Innovation Lab, with a mission to drive financial services access and justice in the UK, and as a Non Executive Director at the Impact Investing Institute supporting Impact Investing in the UK and Africa.

Anke Luckja

Anke Luckja was appointed CEO of Opportunity International Germany in February 2019. Anke joined Opportunity as Program Manager in 2006, transitioned to Program Director in 2010, and became Vice President of Opportunity International Germany in 2015. 

During her time at Opportunity Anke has secured and increased funding from the German Government and EuropeAid, and has quadrupled the income from German and Swiss trusts and foundations. She holds a Master of Arts in Romance Studies, Business Administration and Education, a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Development and Cooperation (CAS) from the ETH in Zurich, Switzerland, and graduated from the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management as a Certified Microfinance Expert in 2015. 

Dan Murray

Dan Murray was appointed President-CEO of Opportunity International Canada in November 2018 and brings a solid and successful history of senior leadership experience in the charity, business and public service sectors.

Dan’s career path and leadership style are both influenced by his Christian faith. Dan is inspired by Opportunity’s mission to help emerging entrepreneurs transform their lives, families and communities. He strongly believes his primary role as CEO is to inspire, support and serve Opportunity International Canada’s leaders and staff as together they execute the mission with excellence. 

Dan’s education background includes a BSc and MSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo. Dan lives in New Hamburg, Ontario with his Artist wife Brenda. They have three amazing adult children, one awesome daughter-in-law, and a crazy beagle named Finnegan. 

Scott Walters

Scott Walterswas appointed Chief Executive Officer of Opportunity International Australia in July 2021. Having enjoyed a long and diverse career in the not-for-profit sector, including educational support for disadvantaged children, poverty relief, women’s health, and early childhood intervention, Scott has led and managed the strategic development and growth in fundraising for a number of charities.

Scott was most recently the Chief Fundraising Officer for Bible Society Australia, and previously, he was Head of Strategic Partnerships for The Smith Family. With an extensive background in financial planning, stockbroking and marketing before his move to the for-purpose sector, Scott brings the depth of business and fundraising experience needed for the role, as well as a passion for alleviating poverty.

Global Programme Leads

Opportunity International’s global programme leaders use their extensive professional experience to ensure Opportunity achieves its mission of empowering people living in poverty to transform their lives, their children’s futures and their communities. Working with the CEO Forum, the Global Programme leaders help establish Opportunity International’s overall strategy, supports implementation of the strategy and oversees the programmes worldwide.

Andrew McCusker

Andrew McCusker is Opportunity International's Head of Education Finance, overseeing Opportunity’s work developing customised financial tools and programmes to improve the accessibility, quality, and sustainability of education around the world. Originally from Australia, he holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of Melbourne and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. He currently lives in London. 

Prior to joining Opportunity, Andrew served as a Global Financial Planning Analyst for Bridge International Academies, working with over 500 low-cost schools across Africa and Asia. Splitting time between London and Nairobi, Kenya, he worked with both investors and education providers, helping to conduct financial impact analyses of key business decisions for these schools and lift education standards. 

He began his career at Goldman Sachs, serving as Executive Director of Global Investment Research where he managed relationships with investors and built an international team working in a number of low-cost markets. 

William Derban

Dr William Derban serves as the Global Director of Digital Financial Services for Opportunity International, defining technical standards, developing business strategy, and negotiating collaborations across mobile money, mobile/cell-phone banking, and agent banking.

William is the convener and co-founder of the Financial Inclusion Forum Africa, a network of professional passionate about promoting financial inclusion across Africa. He was formerly the Market Engagement Director for the Mobile for Humanitarian Innovation programme at the GSMA. 

Before joining the GSMA, William worked in the financial sector for over 20 years. He worked as the Director for Strategic Partnerships and digital banking for Fidelity Bank Ghana and before then as the Head of Community Investment for Barclays Bank, responsible for Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.  William also sits on several financial inclusion related boards and is a passionate speaker on development and financial inclusion. He lives in London with his wife and three children.

Timothy Strong

Timothy Strong serves as the Head of Agriculture Finance for Opportunity International. In addition to managing a diverse portfolio of agriculture finance products and services throughout Africa, he has spearheaded Opportunity’s efforts to implement and mainstream gender-inclusive services to empower women in farming. He lives with his family in Lilongwe, Malawi. 

Before joining Opportunity, Tim worked with a Silicon Valley start-up coordinating Lean and Kaizen project management, the U.S. Department of Agriculture/Agricultural Research Services, the U.S. Peace Corps, the Clinton Foundation, and several commercial farms.  He received a Bachelor in Science in biochemistry and plant physiology from the University of California at Davis, and holds a master’s degree in environmental policy and an MBA in operations management.

Calum Scott

Calum is responsible for the Social Performance Management programme across Opportunity’s global network, helping to understand the impact that we’re having on the lives of the families we serve. He has been a Board member of the Social Performance Taskforce and previously worked as an economist for the Scottish Government and the National Health Service.
