Young Ambassadors for Opportunity (YAO) UK is a group of students and young professionals in London who are working together to inspire, educate and involve young people committed to transforming the lives of the poor through microfinance.
YAO UK members are a socially engaged international community, with professionals from finance, law, marketing, design, public affairs, business, consulting and beyond.
We believe in giving people the chance to work their way out of poverty and are excited that Opportunity International has given more than 1 million people that chance. And we see YAO UK as a way to personally become part of that answer to world poverty.
YAO UK members have the opportunity to connect with global leaders in microfinance—and be inspired by them. And we develop leadership skills along with knowledge of global economics, poverty and microfinance.
YAO UK was formed in early 2009 and has a sister group in the United States.
YAO UK members spread the word and build support for Opportunity International amongst their peers in the UK through networking and events.
Our initial efforts include:
A dedicated team of YAO UK members builds awareness, knowledge and support of microfinance and Opportunity among London’s community of university students.
YAO UK also produces and hosts large-scale special events to raise awareness, support and funds for microfinance and Opportunity.
YAO UK’s first event was an informative drinks evening and photography exhibit, held on 29 October in the City.
An outstanding was raised for Opportunity. This amount was then generously matched by an Opportunity supporter, taking the total to .
Opportunity International's Night of 1000 Dinners (OI1K) is an initiative to build grassroots support for Opportunity. Because a personal recommendation is such a meaningful endorsement, OI1K provides a vehicle for those who are most passionate about Opportunity to share that passion with friends and colleagues and encourage them to learn more and consider supporting Opportunity’s work.
